Located directly on the 45th parallel, we use our distinct location as the driving force behind our approach to crafting world class wines that represent the region. Using grapes from estate and regional vineyards, everything is handcrafted on-site with the goal of producing the most approachable, elegant wines possible.
What we call the "Lake Effect" is the moderating effect that Lake Michigan has on the climate of West Michigan, and it is what makes grape growing possible. There is a narrow band right along the shore where cold tender grape varieties can be successfully grown. Most people who live around here know the Lake Effect as heavy winter snowfall. But we know the Lake Effect as milder winter temperatures leading to great Michigan wine.
Black Star Farms is a unique wine & culinary destination in the heart of Traverse City's wine country that features two winery production facilities with tasting rooms on both the Old Mission and Leelanau Wine Trails. Just 12 miles north along scenic M-22 from Traverse City, the largest, and flagship property near Suttons Bay also includes a luxury Inn, event spaces, a farm-to-table cafe, a distillery and an equestrian facility.
Good Harbor Vineyards was opened in 1980 by Bruce and his wife Debbie. Good Harbor was the fourth winery established on the Leelanau Peninsula. Today the winery has 70 acres of vineyard and manages hundreds of acres around the peninsula as well. The winery is now operated by the second generation, siblings Sam and Taylor Simpson, with hopes of continuing the family legacy and helping with the growth of the Michigan wine industry.
Dave began pursuing a career in the wine industry partially due to his and Jane's love of wine and because of their desire to build a small business dedicated to producing high quality wines (in particular, high quality red wines) from vineyards that they owned and nurtured. After working in a local Vineyard and Winery for 6 months, Dave decided to "start from scratch" and purchased farmland they knew was ideal for growing grapes with its North-South slope high up in the rolling hills of Leelanau County. They now have 21 acres of predominantly (99%) Vinfiera with half the acreage devoted to red varietals (Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc and Merlot).
In 1973 we planted our first vines, and established our vineyards at the Elm Valley location in 1976. These vineyards have been increased until today the property is fully planted with about 20 acres of vines. Varieties we grow include pinot noir, vignoles, pinot gris, regent, riesling, chardonnay and pinot meunier. We also purchase significant amounts of chardonnay and pinot noir from other growers here on the Leelanau Peninsula for our L Mawby wines. We source for M.Lawrence from Leelanau Peninsula, southwest Michigan and California.
Nestled along the Lake Michigan Shore appellation, and founded in 1938, Warner Vineyards is one of Michigan's oldest wineries. Our wines have been served at the White House and 2 Super Bowls. As the 3rd generation of Warners', we look forward to welcoming you to one of our tasting rooms to sample our award-winning wines.
B. Nektar Meadery was founded in 2006 by Brad and Kerri Dahlhofer, with the help of their good friend Paul Zimmerman. Brad has been an avid homebrewer since 1998, making beers, meads, ciders and wine for his own enjoyment. When Brad and Kerri got married in 2005, he made a mead to toast with at their wedding and received great reviews from the guests. Jokingly, he said that he’d someday open a meadery. Paul, a long-time friend and fellow homebrewer, soon began making meads along with Brad in the Dahlhofers’ basement. Their meads quickly began winning awards at homebrewing competitions.
We are a small winery, producing wines which arouse the senses from the aroma to the finish, committed to unmatched quality. Our wine varietals are 100% and without manipulation. 20 years of private winemaking has led us here. Our wine varietals are cellar quality, let it age if you desire.
Chateau Fontaine is a family-run winery that opened its tasting room doors in 2000. Dan and Lucie Matthies started growing grapes in 1987, and made their first Chardonnay in 1998.Starting with Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir, Chateau Fontaine now grows 15 varietals and produces some of the most awarded wines in Michigan.

Our boutique winery, located in lovely Lake Leelanau, in Northwestern Michigan on the 45th parallel, specializes in cool climate wines. We started growing vitis vinifera on our cherry farm in 2006 and now have 6 varietals flourishing on about 10 acres located on sweeping vistas almost 900 feet above sea level and about 1 mile from Lake Michigan. We are dry farmed, with high density planting and associate with the most professional and knowledgeable experts at all levels and all times on the journey from soil to bottle. Our mission is to grow the best grapes that can be expressed as the best wine.
Throughout Northern Michigan, there are numerous small vineyards owned and farmed by individuals who do not have wineries. The grapes were often sent to giant blends. Many of these viticulturists are excellent farmers and deserve to see their work turned into wine. Left Foot Charley has teamed up with Northern Michigan's best 18 growers to produce wines that display the range of aroma and flavor found among the glacially tilled hills of our appellations. Lake effect, soil composition, vineyard aspect, and grower mentality shape these flavors individually. Each vineyard sells only to LFC and the commitments go beyond simple cash per ton arrangements. Through mutually established goals, their farms are defining terroir in our appellations. Our goal is to bring their work to the bottle.

Hawthorne Vineyards is a friendly boutique vineyard and tasting room destination just four miles North of Traverse City on Old Mission Peninsula. We're passionate about making finely crafted, small production quality wines from our estate fruit. Our 80 acre site is nestled into a ridge above Peninsula Drive with postcard views of East and West Grand Traverse Bays. Hand crafted wines are created from the vineyard's acreage of Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio, Merlot, Lemberger, Gamay, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Gewürztraminer and Riesling.
Our production is extremely small, less than 2,000 cases annually. The wine labels, modeled after the Arts and Crafts movement, communicate our philosophy. Both the vineyard and cellar work are done by hand with extreme care and attention to detail. We conscientiously farm our vineyards to produce low yields of intense concentration. Our vineyards are on the organic side of things, but non-certified (diverse ecosystem, no irrigation, no fertilization). Our wines are estate bottled with the labels applied by hand at the winery.

Exceptional wine begins in the vineyard, and at Dablon Vineyards, we strive to produce exceptional grapes. Our vineyard practices focus on growing high-quality, full flavor grapes that will become distinctive, elegant wines. Our soil, composed of rocks, minerals, clay, sand and gravel provide the perfect foundation for growing our grapes. Balancing the right amount of green growth - leaves and shoots - with the amount of fruit per shoot and clusters per vine is crucial for grape quality. Throughout the growing season, we work with the vines - training the shoots, removing leaves, and thinning clusters in order to achieve the proper balance.
Dizzy Daisy Winery & Vineyard was born in the 'thumb' of Michigan in 2006. Harold Kociba, the owner, started growing the grapes for his retirement project. Soon after, he stared handcrafting the wines himself. Our list now contains over 50 wines! In our selection, you will find everything from our dry red Marechal Foch to a sweet blend of white wines called Bad Axe Passion. There is a wine for everyone's taste! We are now offering a selection of hard ciders! Enjoy your glass on our quaint patio among your friends and the unique farm feels.
